Our Story

Combining funky with chic

The House of Manors is a small, British, independent clothing brand recognised by their wacky designs and timeless quality.

The brand was created initially as a bit of fun by owner Veronica Levett-Scrivener who's passion for fashion and high-end British quality inspired her to work with talented pattern cutter Lourens. This collaboration lead them to showcase quirky patterns and designs by creating uniquely British menswear shirts and ladies fitted shirts, loose shirts, tunics and dresses. The proudly independent clothing brand has grown, gaining traction in popularity amongst the old and young; tall and short; thin and curvy.

" I love rummaging in warehouses for fabrics, designing new styles with my pattern cutter Lourens, a charming and hugely talented South African, working with my website designer come fashion photographer Sophie, a bundle of energy and many talents, and then selling the finished product to the eagerly awaiting public."

-  Veronica Levett-Scrivener.

"Our Brand isn't just about exceptional quality, attention to detail, fabrics and designs, but it is also about working with a team of individuals who are as passionate about style as I am."

A lady with a plan...

Veronica started her first business when she was at Durham University, importing jumpers from the San Lorenzo market in Florence, and "cold selling" them in offices in London, outside the library in Durham and in chalets in Verbier.  Since becoming a mother, Veronica put her fashion interests to the side and developed Heavenly Property with her great friend Mel Dellow. Her buy-to-let portfolio (consisting of 25 properties) allowed her to finance her four children's school fees, while also being an attentive full-time mother and independent businesswoman. With Veronica's entrepreneurial spark ignited, she later developed More Than Good Manners in 2008, teaching British manners and etiquette through customised classes and bespoke tours. More Than Good Manners' flourishing success led it to attract international clients from China, Russia and Japan; showcasing Veronica's classically British values of manners, etiquette, quality and heritage while teaching clients what it is truly like to 'be British'. This led on to her next venture So Very British which sells vintage clothing, equestrian items, antiques, fine art and jewellery.

With hobbies such as riding side-saddle, dancing and skiing, Veronica decided to head back to her fashion roots through modelling for multiple agencies in 2020. Over much thought over the years, she decided to pursue her love for quality fashion with Lourens in February 2020; which launched the beginning of The House of Manors. The name of this brand combines Veronica's love for her properties and her thriving manners and etiquette business, More Than Good Manners

"Even at my advanced age of 57, I am still hugely enthusiastic about every business that I start. Not only is The House of Manors a business venture it is also an adventure."

-  Veronica Levett-Scrivener.
